With the nickname of "Max" (Maxamillion, yes there is a story about this nickname) this proven chestnut stallion is the culmination of over 50 years of our family's breeding of and devotion to the Morgan horse. This breeding is the continuation of many well known ranchers. Some will have seen Max in a recent calendar produced by the Foundation Morgan Horse Club and many more have been impressed by Max in living color. Yes, he carries the gene that produces a metallic sheen to his coat. Years ago when we were showing his great grandsire (both top and bottom), Farceur Morgan 13151, (Carter) people were always asking what we put on his coat to get that shine. The answer, "nothing".

Under that beautiful coat is a stunning example of the Morgan horse. His extended pedigree shows his Morgan ancestry going on and on to what is considered today as old Western Working Morgan breeding with a lot of old California Morgan breeding. On his dam's side, Richwood Iris Rose's  sire is Twality line bred Revere. Twality, now deceased, sired may Champions and stood at the Stewart Ranch in Point Reyes, CA, for a number of years. At the top, in the seventh line of his pedigree, is Mountcrest Sellman (Sellman) and the bottom is Iva Sonfield (Hill). His great grandsire, Otto McClure (Red Gates x Belle McClure) was one of the Morgan stallions purchased from E.W. Roberts' High Pass Ranch in San Diego County, CA., to be included in the Parker Ranch breeding program in Hawaii. There had been other of his ancestors precede him in that trip to the famous Parker Ranch. Only Ramona Warrior and Ramona Brave bred on as sires here in the continental U.S.

Valley Oak Morgans in Santa Maria, owned by Donna Thompson, has an outstanding black colt by Max and a beautiful chestnut filly by him as well (see below). Stop by and take a look!

Max spent 8 months with Gary VanHoosen of Sanger, CA. Max is now being ridden and shown by David Cervantes who has a training facility in the Sacramento Valley in California. Look for him in 2011 in open reining and Western Pleasure, and who knows what else! We have been privileged to include in our breeding program many true versatile Morgans. A number of mares have already been booked to him for this year so if this is the kind of Morgan horse you crave to see at your home, get on the band wagon soon!
